Dan Wetzel

Everything that I read in Scripture has convinced me that God’s highest priority is neither our work nor our mission. It is His glory.

Dan Wetzel

Rev. Wetzel is currently serving as vice president for Church Ministries. He has also been the assistant vice president for Pastoral Development and Administration in Church Ministries. After fifteen years of C&MA ministry with Native Americans in Minnesota and the Dakotas, Dan and his wife, Iris, pastored Alliance churches in Glendive, Montana, and Evanston, Wyoming. In 1996 he was elected district superintendent for the Southwestern District. The Wetzels served for eleven years in that ministry before making the move to the National Office of the C&MA in Colorado Springs in May 2006.

Dan made a profession of faith as a teenager before he began attending an Alliance church. But, it was within the Alliance that he experienced the filling of the Holy Spirit and God’s call to ministry. He graduated from high school in 1964, planning to study forestry at Pennsylvania State University. A year later, after yielding to God’s call, he transferred to Nyack Missionary College (now Nyack College) to prepare for service as an overseas missionary. Dan graduated with a B.S. in Bible and Missiology 1969. He finished studies at Jaffray School of Missions a year later, and received a master’s degree in cross cultural communication from Alliance Theological Seminary in 1979. After studying theological education by extension at the Presbyterian Seminary in Guatemala, Dan returned to the U.S. to design and implement a TEE program for Native American churches. The program of study was soon expanded to meet the needs of the broader Alliance family. It is now known as the Church Leadership Academy.

Dan and Iris have been married for 44 years. Iris also responded to God’s call to service while attending an Alliance church in the Adirondack region of New York State. She is a graduate of Nyack Missionary College and is a consecrated official worker in the C&MA. The Wetzels have four adult children and six grandchildren.
