Ambassador of God’s love

By

A descendant of the Incas, Eduardo Palací was the only convert of a young English missionary to Lima, Peru. Palací was eight years old when he found the Lord as Savior. He began to witness on the streets of Lima after the missionary, just four years in the country, died of typhoid fever.

Palací left Peru at age 17 to go to Ecuador. From there he went to Panama and soon on to Jamaica, where he married a fine Christian woman who was a captain in the Salvation Army. They came to Argentina in 1911.

While traveling through Ecudaor, Palací really became settled in the Lord through the help of William E. Reed, the first missionary to that country, who later joined The Alliance and became field director of Ecuador in 1924. One night, high up in the Andes Mountains, Reed prayed Palací through to victory. His love for The Alliance then took deep roots, and he fell in love with the writings of A. B. Simpson.

Palací joined our ranks in Argentina, but the Salvation Army would not consent to losing such a valuable worker who was a great evangelist and writer. And while he served (achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel), he gave freely of his time to evangelical groups and denominations, especially The Alliance. He preached throughout our churches in Latin America and in our Spanish-speaking churches in New York City and on the border of Mexico. After retirement, he taught at the Alliance Bible institute in Buenos Aires and translated several of Simpson’s books into Spanish. As a result of his ministry, hundreds of men and women found the Lord, and many more came to know the Lord in a deeper sense.

My husband, Samuel, Palací and I ministered together in Peru a few years ago in the Andes town of Huánuco. When the invitation was given, hundreds of men and women filled the long, rustic altar and front benches. With tears streaming down his cheeks, Palací repeated his favorite phrase: “Marvelously great is the love of God!” Everyone agreed.

This great man went to be with the Lord after a heart attack on June 14, 1961, while he was traveling by bus to his classes at Buenos Aires Bible Institute. God had found him at the foothills of the Andes and used him to bless thousands of people with the message of His undying love for a lost world.
