Dear Co-Laborer for Christ,

The Board of Directors of The Christian and Missionary Alliance met in Colorado Springs, Colorado, February 24–26, 2015. On Tuesday evening and most of Wednesday, district superintendents and association presidents joined the Board for stimulating and productive discussion of C&MA funding issues, concerns related to racial reconciliation, and other matters pertaining to Alliance ministry. There is no knowledge of such a combined meeting being held before, and the dialogue was greatly appreciated by all. In addition, the Board reviewed numerous reports and acted on the following recommendations.

The General Council Nomination Process Committee presented a report with a number of recommendations, including revisions on how the General Council Committee on Nominations will be constituted, a new process for nominating candidates for the office of president, and the possibility of proxy voting for president. Recommendations are being fine-tuned and will be brought to Council for adoption.

Other matters related to the 2015 General Council were acted upon, including C&MA Manual revisions pertaining to districts and associations and certain proposals related to the Great Commission Fund, which will result in changes to our funding methodology. A clarifying definition of the word “premillennial” will be proposed as a change to the Statement of Faith. A Statement on the Sanctity of Life will be brought as a replacement to the current Statement on Abortion. A 2015–2016 budget of $42.7 million and a 2016–2017 budget of $44 million will be recommended. All such reports and recommendations will be published in advance of Council in accordance with the notice provisions outlined in the C&MA Manual.

Rev. David L. Goodin was appointed as moderator for the 2015 General Council, and Mr. John A. Thomas was appointed as the assistant moderator. The Board is gratified by reports of strong early registration numbers for Council.

The Audit Review Committee presented a report, including a recommendation that all C&MA districts join the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). The C&MA as a denomination has been a member of EFCA for a number of years, but there are significant benefits to having each district also join.

The Board received reports of a favorable ruling in a lawsuit to exempt some of our supporting organizations (e.g., retirement centers) from a government mandate to include abortifacients as part of employee healthcare coverage. This has been a serious concern since such organizations do not automatically receive a “church” exemption from such a mandate.

Dr. LeRoy N. Johnston and Mrs. Cora E. Phillips were reappointed to two-year terms as members of the Sensitive Issues Consultative Group (SICG). Mrs. Lisa K. Merrill was appointed to the C&MA Benefit Board for a one-year term as an international worker representative.

The Board rejoiced in the appointment of three international workers and the news that others are in various stages of preparation for service. As the Lord provides workers and resources, we continue to seek opportunities to push back the darkness in spiritually needy locations around the globe.

The Board also received reports from several supporting organizations: The Alliance Development Fund, Inc.; CAMA Services, Inc.; and The Orchard Foundation, Inc. Board members for each of these organizations were elected where necessary.

Your earnest prayer, your faithful labor, and your generous financial support of Alliance ministries are greatly appreciated. We are a Christ-centered, Acts 1:8 family!

Rejoicing in Jesus,

“David
