“Why do I love Council? Because when a gathering like this comes together in the name of Jesus with the expectation that Jesus will be present and glorified and honored, something wonderful is bound to happen,” said Ed Mangham, district superintendent of Ohio Valley, at opening night of Alliance Council 2017.

For the 114th time, the U.S. Alliance family gathered to be healed and empowered, to hear from God, and to minister to one another. For some, the event entailed more than they imagined.

“I volunteered to attend Council mostly out of duty—an obligation of sorts,” said Jim Kemper, an elder at Antioch Alliance Church (Logan, Ohio). “I wanted to learn about our denomination and participate in a week of business meetings. What I got to experience was amazing! I cried at every session, including the business meetings. I experienced a spiritual retreat.”

Attendance in Columbus, Ohio, May 30–June 4, 2017, reached more than 3,000. It was the second largest Alliance Council, ranking just below the centennial celebration in 1987.

Among the many events, Christ was at the center. The Spirit was present and prayer a priority.
