God’s Perfect Timing

By

“It’s you! I can’t believe it’s you!” The man stared at me in astonishment.

A couple of years earlier I had traveled an hour and a half from the San Francisco Bay Area, where I lived, to Stockton, California, to look at a Harley Davidson that was for sale. After I had spent some time talking with the owner, whose name was Chewy, I decided to purchase the bike and ride it home while my wife and kids followed me back. Before I left, I shared my testimony with Chewy and gave him a new Bible I had in my car. I explained to him that knowing Jesus was the most important thing in a person’s life.

Tim, Chewy & JohnnyTwo years passed, and by God’s divine hand, my family and I moved to Stockton, where I pastor a little C&MA church. One night, I ran into a man who just stared at me as if he had seen a ghost. It was Chewy. After I had left the Bible with him, God really started to work in his heart. “God just kept coming after me and wouldn’t go away,” Chewy said. “Eight months ago, I finally surrendered and gave my life to Jesus Christ.”

As our friendship grew, he visited my church and began to bring others with him. One Sunday he brought his in-laws, who kept coming back. They became members and are now involved in a Bible study. Last Sunday, Johnny (Chewy’s father-in-law) said he had something to show me. He pulled off the cover of his Bible and said that Chewy had given it to him a while ago. It was the same one I had given Chewy two years earlier.

In Galatians 6:9, we learn about the Law of the Harvest, that in God’s perfect timing we will see the result of our hard work. I had no idea that I was going to be serving the Lord in Stockton when I gave Chewy that Bible, but God did, and He was planting a seed. Now Johnny and his wife, Rose, are taking what he is learning in Bible study and giving it away to others. Their daughter gave her life to Christ and was baptized on Easter Sunday. Johnny is growing in his relationship with the Lord and is ready to serve as God leads.

God says that we will reap whatever we sow and that He wants to do immeasurably more than we could ever dream. So, to all who are planting and watering—don’t quit before the miracle happens. It’s just a matter of God’s perfect timing!
