Not Forgotten

By

There is such a blessing that comes from helping widows. One of the first things that Christians began to do in the Book of Acts was to care for widows and orphans. Just last month I was introduced as “the lady that takes care of all the widows.” I wish I were able to take care of all the widows, but we are working with the ones associated with our Alliance churches in Burkina Faso; the life-changing difference for these women and their children has been remarkable.

Five years ago we had an overwhelming response to a seminar for widows. One of our Christian doctors provided free medicine and consultations. Other Christians volunteered in the kitchen and some brought in food donations. We have been asked many times to hold another seminar. In 2013 we hope to use gifts to the Great Commission Fund to once again bring together widows from all over Burkina in an effort to demonstrate Christ’s love and remind them that God has not forgotten them. Through the GCF, we have been able to help our local widows—with food, counseling, seminars, resources and their kids’ schooling—but have felt led to expand our influence and reach out to those throughout our country who are forgotten and alone.

On behalf of these women, I thank you very much for your willingness to give so that they can receive. The Bible tells us that God is the God of the widow, and Jesus reminds us that whatever we do for the least of these, we do for Him. May you be blessed for the care that you are giving to the Body of Christ, these Christian widows here in Burkina Faso.
