These Heard and Believed

As the believers were gathered in the home of a Christian in Madaba, Jordan, praying for the healing of the mother in that family, a young lady entered. Beholding the earnest tears of believing prayers, she too immediately broke into tears of concern.

One of the believers turned gently to her and pressed upon her the tender claims of Christ. The young woman stated that she was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church but did not attend more than one or two meetings a year since she received no benefit.

She said, “This is the first time I have ever come into a religious service conducted by true believers, and to hear that there is a God who loves me and is anxious to hear and answer my prayers moves my heart and feeds my soul.” Right there she prayed for salvation, and the believers witnessed the joy of the Lord that radiated from her face.

During the summer, a young married woman came into the meeting room for the first time, and though the missionary was giving the Word in a dialect strange to her, she was strongly impressed with the gospel. Before the close of the service, the Spirit of God had gotten hold of her. Her face beamed with light mingled with tears of joy and thanksgiving to God.

As the result of an illness, her tongue had been paralyzed, so at the close of the service, by signs she asked for the preacher to pray “on her head.” Now she can speak quite plainly and praises God for leading her to this little C&MA church in the Old City of Jerusalem. Her heart has caught a vision, and she wants to be blameless before the Lord.

She said, “I never knew this truth. It is only since coming to you that my eyes have been opened. Truly, I was blind to all this blessed salvation. Now I cannot understand how people can continue in sin rather than accept this wonderful Savior who can cleanse their lives and fill them with His great love.”
