Events › GC Sunday ’09
Great Commission Sunday is more than an annual tradition—it’s a celebration of what God is accomplishing through the worldwide work of The Alliance. The practice of giving financially to build Christ’s Kingdom has long been an Alliance distinctive from the very beginning. Great Commission Sunday is an opportunity for churches to express their commitment to reaching lost people with a gift to Alliance Great Commission Ministries.
Typically, this is a community giving opportunity through your local Alliance church. If you prefer to make an individual gift online you can donate now using our secure server.
Giving to date
In order to keep you informed of the generosity of Alliance people, we are pleased to report that as of August 28, 2009 the total G.C. Sunday offering stands at $1,013,908 towards our goal of $1,000,000. These donations will enable us to continue the work to which God has called The Alliance. Thank you for your generosity.
Into the Far East
The frontier mission of Mongolia is ripe for harvest, and Alliance international workers are on the field—your gifts to Alliance Great Commission Ministries are saving lives. Since 1997, your support of The Alliance and its relief arm, Compassion and Mercy Associates, helped to:
- Bring health and life to Mongolians through mobile medical/dental clinics
- Instill a hunger for Christ at a Bible school/leadership training center
- Build community through multipurpose centers in Ulaanbataar and Darhan
These ministries in Mongolia are just a glimpse of the global outreach of The Alliance, where more than 900 U.S. Alliance workers are in 81 countries, impacting thousands for Christ.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Great Commission Sunday? Great Commission Sunday is more than an annual tradition it is a celebration ofwhat God is accomplishing through the worldwide work ofThe Alliance. The practice ofgiving financially to build Christ’s Kingdom has been an Alliance distinctive from the very beginning. Great Commission Sunday is another opportunity for our churches to express their commitment to reaching lost people with a gift to Alliance Great Commission Ministries.
- When should this opportunity be presented to our congregation? The purpose of Great Commission Sunday is for the Alliance family to join together each May to make a significant impact for the Kingdom. However, we understand the need for flexibility with your church calendar, so you may select any Sunday this spring—the important thing is to collect the special offering before June 30.
- What if we recently held our missions conference event? Great Commission Sunday complements your missions conference. This campaign demonstrates our commitment to the mission and invites your church family to come along. The goal is 100 percent participation, and it’s the right goal. By actively participating in Great Commission Sunday, people are drawn deeper into the heart of your church, your denomination, and your Lord’s Kingdom.
- Why participate when we already support Great Commission Ministries? Thank you! On behalf of the thousands of churches and international workers throughout the world, thank you. You are making a powerful difference in people’s lives. Great Commission Sunday is simply an opportunity to encourage the faithful givers. They will be encouraged to know about the special promotion and may even enjoy joining the Alliance family in this special event. Another obvious advantage is this once-a-year event is a safe way for non-supports to participate. There really is no “downside” to participating in Great Commission Sunday.
- How can our church make a difference? Here is one proactive step your church can take—please encourage everyone in your congregation to participate in this year’s Great Commission Sunday offering. Imagine—if every member of every Alliance church participates, how much closer we will come to completing the Great Commission!
- With the toll the economy already has taken on our church, why ask for lOO%, participation? The economy is one of the biggest reasons for participating in Great Commission Sunday. Demonstrating our love and trust in God during good times is great. But, it is exactly for times such as these that the church is called. Allowing the church body to walk in faith and see what God will do is essential during a financial crisis.
- Do the funds we raise on Great Commission Sunday need to be kept separate from our church’s normal GCF giving? How should we designate this offering? Yes, this is a special campaign and needs to be recorded as such. Each church will be credited for the amount given as part of its annual GCF contributions. Simply enter in the amount given on Great Commission Sunday in the space on your church’s monthly remittance form.
- What resources will we receive to promote Great Commission Sunday? You will receive ONE mailing with quantities of bulletin inserts and a DVD featuring segments about the frontier mission of Mongolia.
- Can we be creative in promoting Great Commission Sunday? Yes! Sunday school classes, small groups, or youth and children’s ministries can come up with ideas to promote Great Commission Sunday. This is an Alliance family event. Thank you for your participation and prayers! Questions? Contact us at (719) 265-2014 or communications@cmalliance.org
Get Involved...
Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.
Give.
You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
Serve.
Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
