Give » GC Sunday 2012

Last year, God threw open doors that had previously been closed for centuries. The unrest in North Africa and the Middle East resulted in unprecedented social and political upheaval and a new openness to spiritual truth.

Your response made a difference.

The U.S. Alliance family responded swiftly to this opportunity by giving nearly $1 million to last year’s Great Commission Sunday offering. By God’s grace, we now have teams on the ground,Street Scene working diligently to establish a vibrant gospel presence in North Africa and North & Central Asia, where less than 2% of the population follow Jesus.

Maintaining Momentum

God’s Spirit is moving and we must follow. We must send more workers to these last-reached places while doors are still open. Great Commission Sunday 2012 is your opportunity to build on the foundation helped lay last year.

Building Trust and Community

Over the past year, our team in one North African country opened a multi-faceted community center that offers a preschool, cafe, fitness center, and English and parenting classes. This newly opened center is already seeing a great response. Friendships are being built, and people are experiencing the love of Christ in tangible, non-threatening ways.

Missions in CongoWe’ve Done This Before

Pioneer Alliance missionaries entered the untamed Congo in 1884 to establish a gospel presence among a resistant and often hostile people. Progress was slow, and workers had to wait daily on the Holy Spirit for guidance and empowerment. Today there are nearly 2 million Alliance Christians in sub-Saharan Africa. Seeing what God did there, can we believe in faith that our pioneering efforts in North Africa and North and Central Asia will someday yield the same results?

Be Light: Give Today.

Contributions to Great Commission Sunday support the Great Commission Fund, through which new workers are sent to areas like North Africa, North and Central Asia and new churches are planted in the U.S. and the world. We’ve made great strides in the past year but there’s much more to be done. Choose one of the gift options below to help continue the work!

Building Trust

Abe’s story

“Abe is a young man who has had a number of Christian friends, some of whom have talked to him about Jesus.Abe But he said he felt that these friends put too much pressure on him about becoming a Christ follower. So I offered the idea of just studying the Bible together with no pressure at all—just reading what God’s Word says.

We had seven studies like this over nine weeks. Now he is saying, “I feel so guilty.” When I ask, “Well, what are you going to do about Jesus?” he always replies, “But my family!” This is a main sticking point for many people. The hold of family & society is very strong.

Even though Abe has some Christian friends and is reading his Bible, he needs take one more step: to attend a local fellowship of believers. There he would meet people just like himself, who obeyed and followed Christ amid the same pressures and opposition Abe faces. People who persevered, remained faithful, and found real joy through an abundant life in their Savior.

Abe has been resisting the notion of gathering with a group of believers. He seems very wary—even fearful—of it. It’s almost like he knows that this is the last step and he keeps putting it off. Please pray with me for this friend to surrender his life to Christ and to become a new man in Jesus. Pray also for others in this region who face enormous adversity by choosing to follow Jesus.”

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to participate in a short-term missions trip and experience missions work firsthand? We’re here to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
