Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? — James 2:15-16 (NIV)
This question presents one conclusion—caring for the least of these is foundational to belief. CAMA (Compassion and Mercy Associates) is the relief and development arm of The Alliance and provides aid for people in crisis situations. There are many ways you can make a difference in someone’s life. Here are two urgent needs that require immediate financial support.
Pacific Rim Typhoon Relief
Government reports state that as of October 1, 2009, 101 Vietnamese have died, and 18 are missing after Typhoon Ketsana leveled the country. This typhoon has affected about 1.4 million people and damaged or submerged more than 350,000 houses.
CAMA has responded to the devastating flooding in Manila with a $5,000 donation to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches of the Philippines (CAMACOP). This will be used to assist the communities in which Alliance churches are located.
In Vietnam, we will be working with PACCOM, a government agency, and the Tinh Lanh Church, the latter as allowed by the government.

Let’s be prepared for the worst,” — Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia
Sumatra, Indonesia
In Padang, over 1100 homes have been destroyed and hundreds of business damaged or destroyed in the tsunami that hit on September 30, 2009. The death toll is over 500 and climbing. Rains continue to hamper rescue and relief efforts. Roads and bridges from the south were damaged making land access to the city of 900,000 primarily from the northern routes. Communication is poor as phone lines and wireless towers are down.
The neighboring communities of Pariaman and Sicincin were hit hard and this is where our efforts will be focused. More than 30,000 homes have heavy damage and most cannot be repaired. CAMA is assisting to purchase and put together tool packets which include a hammer, shovel, saw, file, hoe, etc. so that people can salvage usable materials from their houses. National workers will help with cleaning of destruction debris and tool packet distribution.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.
Give.
You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
Serve.
Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
