Building Churches in the City of Poipet (Cambodia)
The Alliance is poised to build new churches in the rapidly growing city of Poipet, the "gambling capitol" of Southeast Asia.
» NEEDED
Cambodia’s boomtown in the west has immediate and long-term spiritual needs. The “gambling capital” of Southeast Asia, Poipet draws thousands of
sex workers, causing the spread of AIDS. Alliance house churches are shining
the light of Christ in this spiritually dark area, but they require funding for
future church buildings.
Approximate need for this project: $118,500
Approximate amount funded to date: Funded!
» WHY THE ALLIANCE?
The Alliance entered Cambodia in 1923 and remained the only evangelical
missionary presence until 1960. Our workers were expelled in 1975. Fifteen
years later, The Alliance returned to begin a signifi cant outreach. Our ministry
in Poipet combines a verbal and practical witness that includes a medical clinic,
church planting, and disciplemaking..
» WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Since 2001 the C&MA has planted four house churches in Poipet, and there
is potential for more due to unprecedented openness to the gospel. The area is
becoming a hub for population growth with new casinos, hotels, factories, and
tourism opening up many job opportunities. With the cost of real estate rising
daily, The Alliance seeks to purchase land for church buildings before prices
skyrocket.
» HOW CAN YOUR CHURCH HELP
Pray that many in Poipet will receive Christ as Savior.
Provide funds to purchase land for church buildings.
Participate in short-term trips to help in construction.
» OUR VISION
C&MA churches in Poipet are maturing and are poised to plant new churches.
As more people move into the region, land for new church buildings will be
vital in reaching the lost.
