Planting Churches in Moscow
The Alliance is poised to plant churches in Moscow, a city with 12 million residents and few evangelical churches.
» NEEDED
More churches in Moscow, a worldclass metropolis emerging from
communism.
Moscow, a city of more than 12 million, has an evangelical population of
less than one-tenth of 1 percent. The spiritual needs are staggering. With an
emphasis on lively worship, the Church of the Open Door has been reaching
lost people in this modern city, but our workers need help. The churchs
Russian pastoral couple is leaving this ministry, and recently the church lost
its lease.
Approximate need for this project: $321,020
Approximate amount funded to date: n/a
» WHY THE ALLIANCE?
The Alliance entered Russia in 1993, partnering with an existing church, the
ECMU (Evangelical Christian Missionary Union), whose church-planting
methods have included personal evangelism, small groups, Bible studies,
mentoring, and discipleship. The Alliance has worked alongside the ECMU,
providing encouragement and support. In 2003 the ECMU sent its fi rst churchplanting
couple to Moscow, and the Church of the Open Door held its fi rst
public services in 2004.
» WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
The Alliance plans to train leaders and form a core group of believers from
the Church of the Open Door to establish a new church, repeating this pattern
many times over.
» HOW CAN YOUR CHURCH HELP
Pray for the Church of the Open Door.
Pray for C&MA missionaries Steve and Christina Volstad, who are
serving as the interim pastoral couple.
Provide funding for desperately needed church facilities.
» OUR VISION
With Gods leading and the help of the Alliance family, this project will enable
the Church of the Open Door to reach the millions in Moscow by establishing
congregations throughout the city.
