Role Description: Pastor for Student Ministries
Lancaster, PA Alliance Church
Purpose:
The primary responsibility of this individual is to give general oversight to student ministries with a particular focus on the personal spiritual formation and discipleship of each student. In addition to this, this role requires investment on leader multiplication, volunteer mobilization and interface with parents and family members. The primary scope of this area of ministry is grades 6 through college age individuals. This position is considered full time exempt.
Qualifications:
- Must evidence a mature spiritual life and patterns of growth and discipline consistent with a leader in the church as required by the scriptural instruction in I Timothy 3:1-7 (Elder qualities) and Galatians 5:22,23, (Fruit of the Spirit).
- Must be a licensed worker in the Christian and Missionary Alliance and be in convictional agreement with Christian & Missionary Alliance confession and mission.
- Must have educational preparation and training consistent with the role being assumed with a pattern of ongoing learning and enrichment in their area of expertise. This would mean the candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study
- Must have minimum of 5 years of effective ministry experience in Student Ministry as a part of a multiple staff situation.
- Must be willing to align with the current direction of the Lancaster Alliance Church and be supportive of the vision and direction of current leadership.
- Must have a passion for and an ability to relate well to the cross section of students with special focus on senior high students.
- Must have the ability to recruit, equip and lead an adult volunteer staff.
- Must be gifted in teaching God’s Word and able to contribute to the overall ministry of the church.
- Must show evidence of a strong marriage relationship and a healthy dynamics with their children
Responsibilities
- Have general oversight of Student Ministries for participants in Grades 6 -12 and college age adults.
- Conduct regular meetings with the Student Leadership team.
- Actively recruit volunteers.
- Meet regularly and give oversight to the Student Ministries Worship Band and the College Ministry Leadership Team.
- Plan and lead retreats for junior, senior high and college age students.
- Oversee and periodically teach at the weekly meetings.
- Coordinate and lead a regular meeting of the parents.
- Establish a yearly ministry calendar and budget for Student Ministries.
- Be considered a part of the Pastoral Leadership Team assist with leadership of the service and cooperation with the other ministries of the church.
- Lead in the development and implementation of small group ministries within the students leading to outreach and service.
- Lead in the assimilation of new people and assuring that the gospel is being clearly communicated and that all individuals are brought to a place of decision about their spiritual direction.
- Provide leadership and training for the SM Staff both paid and volunteer assuring that there is continuity and integration of the men’s ministry, women’s ministry and any other age defined ministry within the church.
- Mobilize a relevant model for evangelism and then subsequent basic discipleship for new student believers who are coming to Christ though personal interaction and ministry of the church.
- Structure social events to build people in their ability to live out their faith in the workplace.
- Serve as a member of the pastoral staff contributing to the overall direction of the church in cooperation with other staff members.
- From time to time preach and teach in public settings within the church
- Advise and consent on overall matters related to all ministries that touch student ministry.
- Lead in the development of a sense of community within the ministry that is welcoming but also not afraid to call people to accountability for their spiritual growth and development.
- Oversee interns and workers in development for the ministry of the church and beyond the church within the C&MA.
- Assume other duties as requested by the ELT and Lead Pastor upon mutual agreement with the Pastor for Student Ministries.
- Report monthly to the ELT giving progress on mutually agreed upon plans and directions.
- Meet weekly with the lead pastor to pray and set direction for student ministries.
- As needed, assist with wedding, funerals, hospital or home visitation and other pastoral duties as required within the church staff and their responsibilities.
- Provide peer input in our efforts to integrate and cooperate with the other age defined ministry within the church.
- Is discipleship/teaching/formation oriented - understands this is an arena for discipleship, not just social interaction.
- Can relate well to non-believers and seekers, and enter discipleship with them as well as long time believers.
- Takes seriously the church as a sending organization, and can help shepherd those who go away for a time (for school or otherwise) in maintaining their ties to a home church.
Accountable
- The pastor for student ministries reports to the lead pastor and is accountable to the district superintendent and to the Elder Leadership team through the lead pastor.
- Shall be hired with the approval of the Lead Pastor, ELT, and the District Superintendent.
- Shall participate in an annual review by the Lead Pastor who shall summarize the review for the ELT.
- Shall submit a written report to the ELT monthly.
