Our team seeks a team member who can help facilitate many of the ongoing team ministries through multiple functions such as business agent, maintenance supervisor, and/or security point person. This person or couple will need to adapt to current and/or future team needs, both anticipating and responding through various support roles. This vital position will enhance team efficiency and effectiveness.

Required Qualifications:

  • Recognized Bachelor’s degree
  • Positive experience in administration or constuction or mangagement
  • Completion of Alliance Polity course
  • Completion of the World Perspectives Mission course or equivalent
  • A minimum Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 45

  • Help maintain mission property and vehicles
  • Support hospital maintenance
  • Come alongside church planting team to assist with building projects

Timeline for Deployment:

Late summer 2019. All appointees are required to attend a cross-cultural and language acquisition program and Pre-Field Orientation prior to deploying.

General Information:

Less than 2 percent of the population is evangelical in this West African nation that is consistently ranked one of the world’s poorest.

Work and Living Environment:

The town has a population of 200,000 and is approximately six hours from the capital.. Private homes with electricity and water supply are available throughout the community;Internet and phone service are also readily available. Small grocery stores supplement supplies found in the local market and in the capital city. A multifaceted team offers opportunities for many types of ministry; Missions organizations in the area provide additional avenues for friendship and work with other Westerners. The Hospital for Women and Children, along with its staff of international workers (IWs), provides more than adequate medical care.

Status of Christian Witness:

Despite a well-established national church, the evangelical population is less than 2 percent; however, several areas show increased openness to the gospel.

Language Expectations:

IWs will receive one year of intensive French language study in an immersion environment followed by basic in-country Bambara study. French is the national language; most offices and public documents are written in French. Bambara is the region’s most commonly spoken language. The goal will be to communicate effectively in both languages in order to perform responsibilities and maintain relationships.

Health Considerations:

Candidates must be in good physical health to endure the climate and challenging work conditions. Hot, dry weather is the norm; hot, humid weather prevails in the rainy season. Malaria and other tropical diseases are concerns, but precautions can be taken to prevent these illnesses. Village ministry requires travel on rough roads and can be difficult, especially if a candidate has back problems. Health infrastructure is poor; however, an in-town hospital staffed by Western doctors, and other medical facilities in the capital, offers typically high levels of care. If you have health questions or concerns, you may consult with Alliance medical professionals on the field.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, the ages of the children, etc.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

The team operates a homeschool co-op through which children of all ages can learn and study together. Although some families participate in just a portion of the co-op experience, a professional teacher with a masters’ degree in education is available to teach during the morning school sessions. Youth With A Mission (YWAM) administers a French-speaking school in town in which several families have enrolled their pre-school and/or elementary-aged students. Some international workers send their high-school-aged children to live in the dorm and attend Dakar Academy in Senegal. We will work with you to find the options that best suit your family.

Compensation:

This position is designated to be funded through the GCF. We offer compensation for this position, covering costs related to a monthly living allowance, housing, travel, children’s education, and full benefits. GCF-funded workers share responsibility for raising GCF dollars from Alliance churches and other sources.

The C&MA is an evangelical denomination committed to planting churches both in the United States and internationally. Due to the nature of this ministry opportunity, some of the required qualifications include optimal emotional, physical, and spiritual health. These will be assessed as you move forward in the application process.,.

Important Clarification:

Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
