International Worker Associate
This is a one-year assignment. A growing team in Africa needs a teacher for their 10 children. Affordable English options do not exist in this country with Arabic as its first and French as its second language. Because this is a new team in a country new to us, we need teachers who will be flexible in fitting into various schooling options that are being considered. These options could include: overseeing six to eight children from several grades in a home school co-op type of school or being on a team with other teachers teaching in a home school co-op with about 20 children.
Applicants need to be aware that serving in the international world typically requires a higher-than-normal degree of grace and flexibility on the part of those applying. Overseas positions can be a bit of a moving target. By this it is meant that our overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, governmental decisions, financial realities, team change, or other factors beyond our control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position. This redefining can happen before, during, or even after the application/interview process.

Planned arrival on field for this role is summer 2012 to serve for one year.
You will be located in a modern city where Arabic and French are spoken. The country exerts a strong and pervasive control over communications, especially in regards to religion. Stress from this has led to International Workers lasting just a few years. A strong and healthy team spirit and team life is required to remain effective and fruitful in such an atmosphere. There is a small church, (300-400 people) meeting mostly in house groups. One group of 50 to 60 in the capital is tolerated by the government and was asked to meet in the one legal Protestant Church building in the city.
Many citizens reply to radio and TV programs broadcasted from outside the country. They ask for a visit but there are so few foreign and local workers that dozens, if not hundreds of requests, go unanswered. The international workers of the city are friendly and helpful. We will work with them when possible, value their advice, and respect their opinion.
Minimal. Part-time tutoring to attain enough language to get along on the street.
Rented apartment or house. 220-volt electricity. All small and large appliances are available in- country.
Medical facilities are very good.
Cosmopolitan with strong Islamic influence. Millions of tourists provide the major income in this country of many beaches and a temperate climate.
Status of Christian Witness:
Radio and TV broadcasts from outside and the few local believers are the main sources for the gospel. Witnessing and conversion are forbidden.
The filling of this position should be seen as a strategic and vital piece in the make-up of the team. One of the main reasons for attrition in this country is the lack of English-speaking options for worker’s children.
Ministry Team Make-up:
A new team of five couples is stationed in Long Beach. Ten children make the team 20 in number.
This role is open only to people who already have their funding largely in place through either an early retirement or some other means. No assistance will be provided nor will individuals be encouraged to raise support funds for the role.
*Creative Access Country. Specific location information related to this ministry description will only be released in later stages of application process.
Interested parties should also write to email@example.com to request a copy of our International Ministries Handbook (IMH). The personnel section of the IMH should be read carefully by anyone with serious interest in serving with us.
