International Workers will be members of a team dedicated to a culturally sensitive approach to pioneer church-planting using some form of a “business as mission” strategy. Each team member will be expected to make a strong contribution in the areas of relational outreach, discipleship, and leadership development as core methodologies in this effort.
- Ample proficiency in a particular business vocation
- Effective ministry within the church
- Ability to share faith in a relational context
- Completion of Alliance Polity course
- Completion of the World Perspectives Mission Course or equivalent
- Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 45 or higher
- Study in the area of community development and/or urban ministry
- Willingness to receive continuing cross-cultural training on the job (those without missiological degree)
- Be able to serve in a closed country where sharing the gospel openly is difficult
- Biblical and theological training
- Cross-cultural ministry training
- Learn the local language to a proficient level and adjust to local culture
- In consultation and cooperation with local partners, advisors, and the team leader, establish a for-profit business which will function as a bridge for culturally sensitive outreach into the surrounding community
- Monitor the business closely, adjusting the plan and strategy as deemed appropriate and in consultation with the team leader and key partners
- Keep current regarding best business practices in the country
- Make new contacts, develop relationships, and share the gospel
- Participate in Bible studies or discipleship activities with new contacts
- Have an open home regularly for entertaining new contacts and team events
- Attend, lead, or contribute to a weekly Bible study, discussion, or other types of meetings and events designed as outreach, discipleship, or worship meetings as a part of the church planting effort
Timeline for Deployment:
This is a diverse and complex country to serve in. Resistance to Christian influence is evident.
Work and Living Environment:
Workers will live in a dynamic urban environment which is likely to be congested, hot, noisy, and lively, all at the same time. Housing will probably be a rented apartment or townhouse-like facility. Because incarnational ministry is viewed as highly strategic, team members will live in, or very near, the areas targeted for ministry.

Status of Christian Witness:
These areas are critically under-engaged with the gospel. The people are difficult to reach and yet God is opening many hearts. Currently the overall number of Christians in the area is under 1% of the total population.
Language is an essential part of ministry. International workers (IWs) receive two years of intensive local language and cultural study. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level, in order to share the good news of Jesus. IWs will be expected to be disciplined and intentionally persevering in the first season of language learning.
There are good health options in this country especially in the major cities.
Expectations for Spouse:
Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s giftings and training, and the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.
Children’s Educational Plan and Options:
Educational options include: home schooling, possible co-op schooling, and local international schools. Boarding school is not an option before the child reaches high school age.
This position is designated to be funded through the Great Commission Fund (GCF). We offer compensation for this position, covering costs related to a monthly living allowance, housing, travel, children’s education, and full benefits. GCF-funded workers share responsibility for raising GCF dollars from Alliance churches and other sources.
The C&MA is an evangelical denomination committed to planting churches both in the United States and internationally. Due to the nature of this ministry opportunity, part of the required qualifications include being healthy in all aspects of life. As you move forward in the consideration process for appointment, these will be assessed.
Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
