We are a growing NGO that blesses our city with programming focused on sustainable development. All of our programming—English training, a handicraft program, high school student mentoring, and women’s wellness—revolves around community. We are looking for leaders to step into roles within some of these programs, intentionally seeking to bless our city with peace through word and action. Candidates must share the team’s commitment to see community-based movements from darkness to light, that result in multiplying, sustained communities of faith throughout our city.

Required Qualifications:

  • A recognized bachelor’s degree in any field appropriate to this ministry
  • Completion of Alliance Polity course
  • Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 50 or higher
  • Minimum of two years successful experience in any of the following: small groups, community outreach, group planting, discipleship
  • Experience developing relationships cross-culturally and communicating Kingdom truth through life and work
  • Relational ability to work on a cross-cultural team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience/educational background in one or more areas: non-profit business, for-profit business, marketing, community development, fitness training and nutrition, TESOL
  • High level of communication skills (may include videography, press releases, webpage design, and graphic design; also the ability to verbally communicate with partners both locally and in our home cultures about our NGO’s activities; ability to communicate cross-culturally and with people from varied socio-economic classes and backgrounds).

Responsibilities:

  • Learn the local language to a proficient level and adjust to local culture
  • Engage in the community center, team activities, and development projects as a leader, focusing on high levels of professionalism as well as deep levels of relational connection.
  • Authentically live out faith and share in word and action
  • Commitment to disciple new believers and see communities of light develop
  • Willingness to participate in mentoring and development of local partners, interns, and future teammates

General Information:

Placement for this position is in a seaside town of nearly 100,000 people. Most residents are familiar with the established center where you will be working. Residential areas of the city are more village like, but thanks to tourism because of the location, a few amenities are present that allow our team to escape the stresses of daily life. Many western fast-food chains and nice sit down restaurants are present.

The climate is described as paradise for all but the four months of summer when the thermometer commonly reads 120 F. While it is a dry heat, it is intense and unrelenting. The climate is considered desert with little to no rain fall. Dress varies and most women of the majority faith wear head coverings. Many locals and ex-pats can be found wearing conservative Western apparel.

Work and Living Environment:

Placement would be in a small city with modern amenities, including hotels and seaside resorts. Taxis are inexpensive and easy to secure. Buses allow for easy travel to the capital, a few hours away—one of the largest and most modern cities in the Middle East. A small airport allows for connecting flights in the capital to international destinations.

Status of Christian Witness:

In the city of placement open sharing of faith must be done with caution. Conversion from the predominant belief to Christianity is illegal as is openly evangelizing. Still, religion is a consistent topic and opportunities to authentically share in word and deed within relationships are common.

Language Expectations:

You will receive two years of intense language study followed by on the field language and cultural acquisition studies. It is expected that you will dedicate several hours per day to language acquisition, and then continue on in Arabic as one of your lifelong goals, as this will greatly enhance your work.

Health Considerations:

The city has respectable health care facilities, but serious issues are referred to the capital, a few hours away, where the medical facilities are exceptional. In the capital city, there are also well-trained doctors, and most medications are readily available.

Expectations for Spouse:

Married candidates need understand that spousal roles vary based on each person’s giftings and training, and the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in the programming of the center, share in calling and ministry qualifications, and engage with many of the responsibilities listed above.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

A growing international school does exist in the city. With a strong British curriculum and some foreign teachers, the school is K-12. Instruction is given in English. Even though the school is an international school, it should be noted that the student body is comprised of 95% local Arab students.

Compensation Package:

This position is designated to be funded through the Great Commission Fund (GCF). We offer compensation for this position, covering costs related to a monthly living allowance, housing, travel, children’s education, and full benefits. GCF-funded workers share responsibility for raising GCF dollars from Alliance churches and other sources.

The C&MA is an evangelical denomination committed to planting churches both in the United States and internationally. Due to the nature of this ministry opportunity, part of the required qualifications include being healthy in all aspects of life. As you move forward in the consideration process for appointment, these will be assessed.

Important Clarification:

Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
