  7. Learning Activity: Flag of Thailand
    • The word ‘Thai’ means ‘freedom’, so Thailand literally means: “Land of the Free”. The Thai are proud that they are the only southeast Asian country that has never been occupied by another country.
    • The colors of the Thai flag are significant. The red signifies the Thai people, the white the purity of Buddhism, and the blue the king and the monarchy.
    • The activity today is to construct a Thai flag. It is to be used as a prayer reminder for the month. Choose from the following three activities the best one for your classroom:
      1. Color the Thai flag. Laminate if possible. Hang on wall or put magnet on back and hang on refrigerator.
      2. Construct a Thai flag using construction paper. Laminate if possible. Use as a placemat. This is a great reminder to pray at mealtimes for the country of Thailand.
      3. Make a Thai door hanger.

        Supplies:

        • Brown paper bag
        • Stuffing material
        • Wire/Ribbon
        • Decorative Scissors
        • Pencil
        • Ruler
        • Paint
        • Hot Glue Gun (low heat)

        Steps:

        1. Draw 2 six inch circles on a brown paper bag (per child). Cut out.
        2. In the center of one of the 6” circles, draw a four inch circle.
        3. Draw straight lines in 4” circle to reflect the image of the Thai flag. Paint it with the appropriate colors of the Thai flag. Set aside to dry.
        4. Run a bead of glue 1 inch from edge of the other circle, halfway around the circle. Gently lay the flag on top of the glue. Matching the edges. Stuff with a small amount of stuffing material. Glue the rest of the way around the circle. When door hanger is together. Cut a decorative edge around the circle.
        5. Attach the wire or ribbon to the edge of the circle.
    • Tell the children good-bye in Thai: “lagon”

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to participate in a short-term missions trip and experience missions work firsthand? We’re here to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
