May 2, 2007
Mrs. Olga E. Allen, retired missionary to China and Indonesia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Everett, Washington. She was 85 years old. Olga, along with her late husband Marion C., served as a missionary with The Christian and Missionary Alliance from 1944 to 1983.
Olga, originally from Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, attended both Nyack and Simpson Bible College. Soon after graduation in 1945, she and Marion were married. They served at the Alliance church in Spokane, Washington, for a year prior to their appointment to China. The Allens were among the first missionaries to arrive in Kweichow-Szechwan after World War II. The doors in China closed three years later, and the Allens accepted appointment to Makassar, Indonesia, in 1949. Assigned to the West Kalimantan province, they launched a new station in Ambalau and opened the Kajan River area (the Dyak people group) to the gospel. In 1956 they served as administrators for two years at the Makassar Bible School (now Jaffray School of Theology) in Sulawesi then began work that would last throughout their missionary career, with indigenous churches springing up in the lesser Sunda Islands. There established various ministries in Kupang and were witnesses of the famed Timor revival. Along with helping to establish the Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) program in East Indonesia, the Allens were involved with church planting, Bible conferences, Theological Education by Extension (TEE), Bible school teaching, and pastors and workers retreats.
A memorial service for Mrs. Allen was held Saturday, April 21, at the North Seattle Alliance Church, with Rev. Mark Price officiating. Any memorial gifts may be sent to The Christian and Missionary Alliance and designated for the Indonesia Mission/Church in Kupang, Timor.
