After years of struggle, Christians in the Attapeu Province of southern Laos rejoiced as the government officially recognized Christianity as a legitimate religion, Missions Insider reported recently.
Just five years ago, persecution of Christians in the region was severe. At the beginning of 2002, 73 people professed faith in Christ. By the end of that year, just 30 believers remained steadfast because of heavy persecution.
Because local authorities recognized Christianity in Attapeu this year, for the first time, believers are able to legally worship together in churches. With the freedom to assemble and openly share the gospel, believers are optimistic that the number of Christians in Attapeu will increase.
