The AC/heating unit at Acts 29 Fellowship, an Alliance church plant in Hamtramck, Michigan, was stolen recently. The theft took place shortly before a short-term missions team from the U.S. National Office arrived to do construction work and children’s ministry.
“For the street value of about $60 worth of tin, the church is now burdened with a cost of $60,000 to $100,000 to replace [the unit],” said Leli Thomas, a member of the short-term team.
Because this type of crime is common in Hamtramck, the insurance company may not cover the cost to replace the unit. If it is not replaced within the next months, the church may not be able to meet in the facility due to winter’s approach.
“Although the theft is a great burden for the selfless, devoted servants of Christ [who minister at Acts 29], we hear no discouragement in their voices,” said Joan Phillips, another member of the short-term team. “They trust God to provide for each day’s need, and this is no different.”
