Shellrude Passes Into Glory

Rev. Ralph Melvin Shellrude, former missionary to Guinea and former district superintendent of the Pacific Northwest District (now Alliance Northwest District), passed into the Lord’s presence on January 24, 2008. He was 80 years old.

Rev. Shellrude was born on February 18, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He graduated from Gordon Bell High School in 1945 and received his diploma in theology from a Bible Institute in Regina in 1948. He married Marion Hope Greiner in 1948, and they entered C&MA service in the Canadian Midwest District and then at the C&MA Church in Vancouver, B.C. The Shellrudes were appointed as career missionaries in 1950 and serve in Guinea for 20 years. They came to the United States in 1970 and remained stateside due to Mrs. Shellrude’s health.

Rev. Shellrude served as the pastor of the Seattle Alliance Church from June 1971 through December 1979. He was then elected as the district superintendent for the Pacific Northwest District (now Alliance Northwest District) and served in that role from 1980–1988. He was assistant to the president for Stewardship from 1989–1992, at which time he officially retired from the C&MA. The Shellrudes moved to Shoreline, Washington, and continued to be active in ministry.

Rev. Shellrude was predeceased by his wife, Marion, in 2004. He is survived by his son, Glen, and his two daughters, Beverly and Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, at the North Seattle Alliance Church, 2150 N 122nd St, Seattle, Wash., at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Mark Price, Rev. Don Bubna, and Rev. Gary Higbee will officiate.
