A computer, camera, bankcards, cash, and jewelry were among the items stolen from the home of Don and Hazel Schaeffer, Alliance missionaries to Japan, on April 19. When they returned from church that afternoon, they found their house ransacked. Cupboards and drawers had been opened and the contents strewn across the floor. “Japan has always been a ‘safe’ country,” said the Schaeffers. “Crime is lower here than in most countries, but times are changing. This is not the first attempted break-in of our home.”
Don and Hazel are thankful that no one was hurt. “Even though things of value were taken, nothing is irreplaceable,” they said. “Although we felt a sense of loss, we could still praise God.”
