“I know I will be a Christian soon”

By Don and Hazel Schaeffer, serving in Japan

Today was our monthly “Day of Prayer”—the first Wednesday of every month. It was a blessing to hear prayers of brokenness as well as testimonies of how God is working.

Mrs. S, who is nearly 80 and was baptized in August, never fails to give testimony of God’s goodness in her life. Her only regret is that she didn’t find Him sooner.

Mrs. N, who came to our church after receiving a gospel choir flyer last fall, brought her son to Bible study last week. He should have been in school, but problems with his teacher kept him home. Mrs. N didn’t necessarily want to go to church and suggested they go on a picnic, but her son, who is in third grade, kept insisting that they go to church.

God met Mrs. N during the Bible study and spoke to her about her anger toward the teacher. Rather than fighting that afternoon, she chose her words carefully. Her son’s teacher apologized, and the boy is back in school. Today, Mrs. N was at the study again and heard people praying for her and her son. She told a woman in attendance, “I know I will be a Christian soon.”

“In a time of financial turmoil,” say the Schaeffers, “we are thankful for all of you who are investing in eternity. Thank you for giving and praying and for being a part of the work here in Japan.”
