A Chinese New Year Blessing

By Mark Edwards, serving in Taiwan

cnyposter24The following is an adapted excerpt from Mark’s blog.

As part of a January 28-February 1 Chinese New Year’s outreach, Alliance workers in Taiwan have rented an advertising truck. An audio announcement is wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year, pronouncing in colloquial Taiwanese God’s blessing for an abundant harvest for the New Year. You can see this truck in action by viewing the topic in the MyCMA forums.

Scripture verses conveying the idea of “blessing” are being rotated between the blessing announcement, including:

  • “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8)
  • “Praise the LORD. Blessed are those who fear the LORD, who find great delight in his commands” (Psalm 112:1)
  • “May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 115:15).
  • “Jesus said, ‘I have come that [you] may have life, and have it to the full'” (John 10:10).

The Taiwanese song playing in the background literally translates: “All Creation Is Filled by Your Grace” (by Streams of Praise). One lyric that stands out to me mentions the Chinese/Taiwanese saying, “There is a drop of water on every blade of grass.” This basically means, “There is always a way out.”

Pray that God will use the Bible verses, music, and the posters displayed on the truck to bless those in our communities who hear and see them!

What You Can Do

  • Give to Alliance Great Commission Ministries. In doing so, you partner with overseas workers, like Mark, to introduce lost people to the true blessing of Jesus.
  • Watch the video of the advertising truck in action and join the discussion in the MyCMA forums.
