by an Alliance worker, serving in Burkina Faso
The following is adapted from a worker couple’s recent newsletter, illustrating the serious family obstacles many new Burkinabè believers face in their desire to grow in their faith.
During a recent evangelistic campaign, a woman in Banzon heard about Jesus and committed to follow Him. The next day, she brought to the church her three-year-old daughter—who had stopped walking three days earlier—and asked for prayer. My husband said that the little girl cried out in pain if anything touched her leg.
Church members prayed for the three-year-old, and the next day she was completely healed! Everyone praised God for this miracle.
Not Alone
However, the father of this little girl was furious, extremely upset at his wife for coming to the church seeking help! He has absolutely refused to allow her to attend any church service.
This woman is not alone. She shares a similar story with many Burkinabè who desire to follow Christ, but because they are in households in which someone is adamantly opposed to Jesus, they are blocked in their efforts to grow spiritually.
Two Things You Can Do
Pray for the woman from Banzon to grow strong in her new faith and for her husband’s heart to soften toward Christ; pray also for the many new Burkinabè believers and their family members who are in similar circumstances.
