Stomach-Felt Thanks!

Côte d’Ivoire‘s recent political unrest forced our international ministry team, serving West Africa Alliance Theological Seminary (FATEAC) in Abidjan, to withdraw from the country to Senegal. The following is an adapted excerpt of a recent update sent by FATEAC’s international leadership couple to their prayer and financial supporters.

A big thank you from some of the more than 100 FATEAC kids—who now have food to eat because of you! Based on your commitments to us, we advanced money from next semester’s scholarship funds to distribute needed food to the whole FATEAC community. Oil, milk powder, rice, pasta, salt, and other staples were provided to each family. On their behalf, I share with you heartfelt (stomach- felt?) appreciation, and I invite you to join us in thanking God for His provision through you!

You Gave to Him

As the Lord provides, we hope to be able to repeat this assistance until the situation becomes more stable in the country. As you gave to them, so you gave to Him!

Many of our FATEAC students attend the local C&MA church in the nearby village of M’Pouto, which FATEAC student Patrice Brou pastors. More than 50 families in the church make their living from cultivating vegetable gardens watered by the adjacent lagoon.

The gardens are located around the perimeter of the Golf Hotel complex; government forces surround this hotel in which the opposition government is located. Disastrously, all of the gardeners have lost their means of self-support and investment from this year’s planting. Many were beaten because they were suspected of being spies and collaborators when they tried to work their gardens.

Compassion and Mercy Associates (CAMA), the relief and development arm of The Alliance, is working with ADIAS, a local non-governmental relief organization of the C&MA national church, providing both immediate relief and long-term financing to help M’Pouto church members and villagers get back on their feet.

Several Things You Can Do

 PRAISE God for . . .

  • His continued provision to FATEAC—through you
  • The ministry of CAMA and ADIAS; and all of the FATEAC staff and faculty

PRAY for …

  • Justice and stability to come to Côte d’Ivoire and that the church will be a light in this darkness
  • The M’Pouto gardeners to heal from trauma
  • Wisdom for FATEAC international team members who are considering a return to the school in mid-February
