Light rain, low winds, and the tireless efforts of nearly 1,000 firefighters have helped inhibit the spread of the fire throughout the night. But as some of the smoke cleared, the fire’s devastation was revealed, as approximately 300 homes in northwest Colorado Springs were destroyed.
Coffee roasted in a popcorn popper in Siberia. Such were the humble beginnings of Global Grounds, a training program for Christian leaders to learn coffee roasting and barista-ing to sustain their work. Recently, 130 people attended the grand opening of the Global Grounds coffeehouse and community center, which now offers coffee as well as Zumba Fitness and English classes.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, a devastating wildfire in and around Colorado Springs, CO has now consumed approximately 15,000 acres, with little hope of containment over the next several weeks.

It is difficult to be a “rich” person in a society where many are desperately poor. Although it is a blessing to help others, how far do you go and where do you draw the lines? These are issues with which I often struggle.

Today in our world there about 4 billion oral learners—people who can’t, don’t, or won’t take in new information or communicate by literate means. That’s two-thirds of the world’s population. Yet an estimated 90 percent of Christian workers present the gospel and discipleship teaching in literate forms.
