Is a new light dawning?
June 12, 2012
The news is unsettling…
“Peace is not a priority.”
“The cries of terrified children calling for their mothers [can be heard].”
“The streets were stained with blood.”
“When she attempted to flee, she was caught; and her nose and ears were hacked off by her husband as punishment.”
These news reports from North Africa, the Middle East, and North and Central Asia, where strategic Alliance initiatives are under way, show why we believe Great Commission Sunday continues to be a vital campaign to advance God’s Kingdom.
God has called us to proclaim good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captive—to be light! As Alliance workers bring Jesus’ message of hope and peace amid such heart-wrenching oppression and political upheaval, hurting people can experience freedom through the Prince of Peace—but only if someone is sent to tell them.
Every day, more and more people in these countries pass into eternity without ever knowing the One who is able to give them the assurance of eternal life with Him. Great Commission Sunday provides the Alliance family with an additional opportunity to participate in the urgent task of taking the whole gospel to the whole world. We can do so much more together than individually.
Thank you for joining with us to celebrate Great Commission Sunday in our efforts to carry the light of Christ into some of the most spiritually dark places on earth.
