Children’s Kitchen

By an Alliance worker, serving in Europe

A little girl fainted at school because of hunger. I’d like to say this is a rare occurrence, but sadly, the opposite is true. Children from surrounding villages have a long commute to and from school each day. There is little money to send along for them to have a sandwich during their lunch break. The post-war economy cannot afford a wide-spread, free lunch program like we have in the United States. Thankfully, God is not limited by a postwar economy.

We partner with a church in the city, where a small “children’s kitchen” has been set up to provide a nutritious lunch for students who travel a long way each day for classes. Our original donation for 15 meals a day came from a partner mission agency. Gifts from Alliance churches back home helped prepare the space and buy needed equipment. By the end of the first week, more than 20 children were coming on a regular basis, so God has been making up the difference by multiplying the food as needed!

On Fridays we travel to the city to help make lunches and hold English lessons afterwards while the children wait for their bus. Pray that the children and their families will be drawn to Jesus through this practical demonstration of His love.
