Spring is in the Air
Recently, we have had glimpses of springtime in Berlin: slightly warmer temperatures and more sunshine than we have had all winter. Easter is just around the corner.
My favorite thing in the last few weeks has been the reappearance of the sun. Before winter began, I had been warned about how hard it can be in Northern Germany because of the lack of sunshine. I thought to myself, I am a Minnesota girl. I can handle winter. But I was not prepared for the amount of darkness we experienced.
Now that the sun is out more and more, I realize how much the light is needed. I can’t help but walk around the city with a huge smile on my face when the sun is shining.
Darkness Doesn’t Have a Chance
This has been a great reminder for me. Often I find myself surrounded by spiritual darkness and let it overwhelm me. Other times, I let myself ignore it. But the light of Jesus Christ is so desperately needed—in me, in the lives of those around me, and in this city. What a difference the light makes!
This has been my prayer: that I will be a light in the darkness that surrounds me and that the difference will be as obvious as the contrast between a gloomy, gray day and a sunny one.
This is my prayer for you all this Easter, too—that we will be filled with joy as we reflect and meditate on the cross and what Jesus did for us on it.
Because of the Resurrection, we can step out of darkness and into the light, and, as the Sunday school song goes, let our light shine!
