Breaking News: Explosion at Nyack College

Shortly before noon today, an explosion at Nyack College’s Rockland Campus caused extensive damage and injured at least 7 people. None of the injuries are life threatening. The explosion occurred in Nyack’s Sky Island Lodge, which houses the computer science lab and several faculty offices.

According to WABC:

Authorities are on the scene of an apparent gas explosion at a building on the campus of Nyack College in Rockland County.

Officials on the scene tell Eyewitness News that the explosion happened shortly before noon inside the building on South Highland Avenue.

Mike Donovan from Orange & Rockland Utilities tells Eyewitness News that it appears to be a gas explosion. He does not believe they had a crew working at the school or making any repairs when it happened.

The force of the explosion blew out windows and doors. One nearby resident heard the explosion, and said it was very loud.

Up to seven people have been taken to Nyack Hospital. Officials said the injuries are not life threatening.

Everyone in the building at the time of the blast has been found, authorities said.

Please pray for those who were injured and for Nyack administration as they respond to this crisis. Updates will be posted as they become available.
