He Still Raises the Dead!

By Richard Herring, regional director for Asia and Pacific, with Joe Kong, Alliance worker in Cambodia

Srey Da, a KEC (Khmer Evangelical Church, the C&MA of Cambodia) member, works with Remember Nhu, an Alliance-related ministry that prevents the exploitation of children caught in the sex trade. She cares for children sponsored by that organization, including Tot, a six-year-old orphan boy. One day Tot became quite ill, and he was taken to the hospital.

Initially the doctor said that Tot’s condition was not serious, though he wasn’t exactly sure what was wrong. Tot remained in the hospital for observation.

After 10 days Tot began having difficulty breathing; an x-ray revealed tuberculosis. Without oxygen, the doctor said that Tot would surely die. Srey Da and her younger brother, Channa, along with the nurses, took turns pumping oxygen.

After nearly a month in the hospital, Tot’s heart suddenly stopped and blood gushed out of his mouth. At the time, Srey Da was two hours away, caring for the other children at Remember Nhu. Channa, who was at the hospital with Tot, called Srey Da to inform her that Tot had died. She wept and called Joe Kong, an Alliance international worker, and other Remember Nhu staff members to pray for Tot.

When Srey Da returned to the hospital to pick up Tot’s body for burial, the doctor told her that Tot was alive, even though his oxygen had been disconnected when he had died a few hours earlier.

Srey Da said, “I told the doctor this was an answer to prayer! He didn’t listen, and I said, ‘This is the work of God.’” An x-ray revealed that Tot had a new lung, completely free of tuberculosis.

Carl Ralston, founder and director of Remember Nhu, said, “Tot was being prayed for by the Remember Nhu workers and prayer supporters. We had sent a request for prayer to several hundred people, and many Remember Nhu children were praying for him as well.” So as Srey Da was crying on the phone with Channa, God was at work. The whole hospital knew of this. Today Tot is fine, running around like any other energetic, healthy boy his age! Praise the Lord—God still astounds with His healing power and even raises the dead!
