Pray for Dakar

By an Alliance worker serving in Dakar, Senegal

a food stand in senegalMany of our city’s 4 million residents have been without water for more than a week now, since a main supply pipe suffered a massive tear earlier this month.

Dakar, Senegal’s capital, does not have enough wells or other sources of water to meet the demand for drinking, bathing, cooking, laundry, and other needs.

I spoke with a Senegalese friend yesterday who was forced to close her small food delivery business until water returns because she can no longer cook or clean her kitchen. She is the main breadwinner in her family, and they will not be able to stay out of debt long.

Across the city, many people are facing similar challenges.

Please pray for the water shortages in Dakar, for an effective and long-term repair to be made to the source pipe, for patience as people are forced to wait, and for wisdom for local government workers as they assist.

Thank you for praying!
