“You are the light of the world . . .” (Matt. 5:14). When we hear this phrase, we often think of Jesus and rightly so—He is the light of the world. But during the Sermon on the Mount, where these words were spoken, Jesus was describing His followers, those who had sought Him out and were listening to His voice.
By “you” Jesus means “us,” His disciples. Watch the video of John Stumbo, U.S. C&MA president, encouraging us to shine that light to all those we meet.
We have the opportunity to be the light of the world in many ways this Christmas season, whether at church, at home or in the workplace. The Alliance family has the additional blessing of being able to participate in the 2013 Year-End Offering—joining believers across the globe in shining the light in some of the world’s darkest places.
Funds received from this offering will help to establish new communities of faith in places like Portugal and Italy and broaden outreach efforts to marginalized and displaced people—such as the Syrian refugees who struggle to survive in overcrowded camps.
Your gifts enable workers from The Alliance and CAMA to bring the gospel to people who otherwise would have no access to the Word—or the opportunity to know Christians and see for themselves how Christ’s followers live out His love every day.
“A city on a hill cannot be hidden . . . ,” Jesus tells us. “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
