Bongolo Hospital Matching Gift Challenge

Since 1977, Bongolo Hospital, a ministry of the C&MA, has been a source of spiritual and physical healing for thousands of Gabonese and African people. Bongolo Hospital’s mission has been to treat the poor and to share Jesus Christ in a tangible way. Over 1,000 souls find Jesus as Savior each year, which is one reason Fairhaven has partnered Bongolo Hospital for many years.

Though the hospital began as a small clinic, it now has over 150 beds, treats 50,000 patients, and performs 1,500 surgeries annually. The hospital is also home to a Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) training program.

“There is 1 surgeon for every 3 million people in the North East Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). There is a huge need for specialists in Africa in general, and in the DRC in particular. So I decided to become a specialist in general surgery,” said Dr. Jacques Angundru, resident at PAACS Bongolo. “I will finish the program at the end of this year and plan to go back to my home country to help the people who are most in need. The Lord Jesus Christ has provided excellent surgical training through the PAACS program. I know that nothing is done randomly, but because God has a plan for His Kingdom to expand. As He said in John 15:16, ‘You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last.’”

To continue its vital mission of treating the illnesses of the African people and sharing the love of God, the hospital needs several critical upgrades. We are working alongside Bongolo Hospital staff to equip new medical consultation rooms, to furnish surgical and lab buildings, and to provide a continuous X-ray machine for the operating room and advanced radiological studies.
