Over the past week world attention has been focused on the advance of troops representing religious extremists from the Syrian border southward toward Baghdad. This advance has included the taking of Iraq’s second largest city, Mosul. This situation is one which seems to be intensifying religious divisions among the population. The Iraqi central government and the international community, including the U.S. government, are seeking wise responses to this complex situation.
Staff of The Alliance in the Middle East are all currently in locations that are secure from the armed conflict and are monitoring security issues in each of their locations. Christian congregations in the path of the terrorists’ advance report much displacement of people and that congregations in cities further from the conflict are receiving and ministering to believers who have had to flee their homes.
In parts of the globe where religious tensions and aggressive actions flare, we can be reminded that God is One who can turn what humans intend for evil into good. Let’s join as an Alliance family in prayer for peace and for opportunity for God’s purposes to be borne out in this tense situation.
