More than 240 young people from three provinces attended a regional youth rally at Living Water Church in Poipet, Cambodia, in early December. “The church was packed!” Alliance international workers Soeuth and Syna Lao reported. Because there were not enough chairs to seat everyone, the youth decided to sit on the tile floor throughout the service.
The young people had prepared and rehearsed special songs and dramas to perform for the event. During the service, participants also had opportunity to share about what God was doing in their lives.
A young lady testified about a miraculous healing from asthma and how God has used her for His Kingdom. Another young woman, a successful professional wedding singer, shared that she recently felt convicted about her lifestyle. “So she decided to quit her job in order to live a life worthy of God’s calling,” the Laos said.
After the time of sharing, Soeuth preached a Christmas message based on Luke 2. “Of all the people in Judah,” he told the group, “the good news of the Messiah’s birth was first announced to the shepherds—who were considered the lowest socioeconomic group in their society. Yet the Savior of the world chose to reveal Himself to them before anyone else.”
“Many of the youth saw themselves in the shepherds’ story,” the Laos reflected. “Young people here often feel left out or ignored. But the message encouraged those at the rally that they are not forgotten by God. Because of His great love and concern for their salvation, God has chosen to reveal Himself to them.”
In an altar call, about 20 individuals went forward to recommit their lives to the Lord Jesus. “Many broke down in tears as they confessed their shortcomings before God,” the Laos said. “Please pray for the youth ministry as God is at work in their lives.”
