The overflow of hostilities from a religious extremist group has become personal for Alliance international workers serving in one Middle East field. Recently, the workers, who conduct English language classes in a community center, received news that a former English student, Harry,* was killed while fighting alongside these terrorists.
“We got to know Harry; he was friendly,” his teacher recalled. “It’s made me think more about Jesus’ command to love our enemies. They are people who are lost without the saving knowledge of Him. It’s hard to love the random terrorists. How do you pray for them? But it’s different when you know them.
“When I wrestle with these realities, I realize Jesus is the only answer.”
Alliance team members throughout the Middle East face escalated risks from these religious extremists and other militant groups. Both Americans and Christian workers are high on the list of potential hostage targets.
Pray for protection for the dedicated Alliance servants who minister the hope of Jesus to disenchanted people in this part of the world. Pray as well “for our enemies,” the English teacher requested. “It’s too late for Harry, but pray that God will reveal Himself in such a way that others will repent and turn to Him.”
