by an Alliance worker serving in West Africa
Our team was discouraged. We had spent the day visiting with villagers and sharing the gospel one-on-one. But no adults attended the evening meeting to hear the preaching or watch the Jesus film that night.
We were engaged in a weeklong village evangelism campaign in Burkina Faso’s Kenedougou region. Alliance Women (a.k.a. Great Commission Women) leaders from two West African nations had joined pastors and evangelists to support local church leaders in their ministry efforts.
Standing against the Enemy
On this evening, when the service was scheduled to begin and no adults had arrived, a small group of school children gathered at the meeting site. Yaya, a young teenager, led the youth as they held hands and prayed against the power of the devil and local fetishes.
“I couldn’t pray; tears were in my eyes,” recalled Tabitha, one of the Alliance Women leaders who joined the group in their intercession. “I was overwhelmed by the fervent prayers of faith these children offered for their village!”
God answered those prayers. The following evening, many villagers attended the meeting—including the village chief and his wife. In addition to a number of children, 10 adults decided to turn from their old ways and follow Jesus.
Pray
Pray for many more in the Kenedougou region to turn from fetish practices and follow Christ.
Join the Alliance family in interceding for our workers in West Africa and worldwide, who are taking the good news—in word and deed—to some of the world’s most spiritually dark regions. Use the weekly Alliance Prayer Requests to assist you.
