Based on reports by Joe Kong, an Alliance international worker who serves in Cambodia
Praise God for 51 believers who were recently baptized during a service where Joe Kong preached. As the last among the group—from several Khmer Evangelical (C&MA) churches in Kompong Cham province—was baptized, Yoy, an invited guest, approached Joe. Her husband, Chhun, was the first to have been submerged that day.
Yoy said she wanted to be baptized too. “You cannot be baptized because you are not a believer in Jesus as your Savior and Lord yet,” Joe told her.
“I want to believe in Jesus like my husband,” Yoy responded. Joe then shared the gospel with Yoy, after which she prayed to receive Christ. Joe asked Rev. Heang Koy, director for the Khmer Evangelical Church’s Eastern Region, and other pastors present, if the woman could be baptized. Everyone agreed.
After Joe had preached, another guest asked to accept Jesus as Savior. She also was baptized that day.
After Yoy returned to her home village, Pastor Solomon, who had led her husband to Christ, asked why she had attended the baptism service.
“I was curious to see what was going on,” Yoy said. After listening to Joe’s sermon about new life in Christ, she said she suddenly became tired of her old, sinful ways. “I wanted to live a new life in Jesus with my husband.”
Pastor Solomon reports that both Chuun and Yoy really love the Lord and are active in the church.
“All glory to God for what He has done in the lives of these new believers!” Joe exclaimed.
What You Can Do
Pray that those who were baptized will continue to grow in their faith and be bold witnesses for Jesus.
