By Esther Schaeffer, who serves in Burkina Faso with The Alliance
“I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me” (Psalm 118:13). I recently experienced this Scripture’s fulfillment at a pastors’ kids’ conference.
We had left early one morning, traveling to the conference in Nouna, a town in the western part of Burkina Faso. About half an hour before arriving at the church, I experienced a burning sensation in my eyes.
Spiritual Resistance
Soon, it became difficult for me to see. I could barely keep my eyes open. Since I was the only one of our team members who could drive, this was a serious problem.
At first, I didn’t want to alarm the others in our vehicle. But since we needed to arrive at our destination safely and I would also be teaching throughout the day, we needed a miracle.
Immediately, the team began to pray fervently. And my vision cleared.
But during the next two days at the conference, the pain in my eyes remained. We took this to be the work of the enemy, since we experienced other obstacles.
Another team member became ill, the electricity cut off just as the evening message was to begin, and we had to leave the conference early because of a threatening thunderstorm. (After we were safely home the heavy rains arrived, making the roads impassable for a time.)
Many Commitments to Christ
There must be some young people in this group God wants to use for His glory, we thought. Some, perhaps, who will make decisions at this conference and have a powerful impact for Christ’s Kingdom.
When we closed out the two days of meetings with an extended time of prayer, we witnessed many young people stand and make firm commitments to Jesus Christ.
Once I returned home from the conference, my eyes were normal, pain free.
If you are facing an obstacle or difficulty, don’t step back. Press forward and stand firm to see how the Lord Jesus will bless your perseverance.
Pray
Please pray for God to protect the many young people who stood and made commitments to Christ at the conference. Pray for their spiritual growth and for His purposes to be fulfilled in their lives.
