I celebrate those of you who are directly involved in serving Jesus’ Church. There is no higher calling. Not all shepherds of the flock carry the title “pastor,” but to all who commit your prayers, energies, gifts, time, finances, and passions to building His Church and blessing His Bride—I commend you.
I note that it’s not getting any easier to shepherd a congregation. Yet I also note that there has never been a time when the Church is more needed. As the fibers of society’s fabric unravel thread by thread, you—church leader—carry a role of increasing import. Keep your shield of faith lifted and your helmeted head raised upwards. Your King leads you. Your Lord walks among you (Revelation 2:1).
Frequently I’m humbled by a simple thought: The Church Jesus originated and redeemed is currently in our care to lead. Not long ago it was in someone else’s care, and in just a short time we’ll pass it on to others. Yet for this brief moment it is ours to love and lead, to tend and teach, to protect and propel. It’s my prayer that I’ll pass on a more loving, proclaiming, reaching, and launching church than the one I inherited. Your faithful, Spirit-led leadership is key.
I’m truly honored to be teamed with you, Alliance leader. Virtually every time I am with the C&MA family, I’m heartened. To say it differently—you inspire me.
May God continue to strengthen you with joy, guide you with wisdom, and infuse everything you do with love.
With respect,
John Stumbo
