In “The Lord Added to Their Number” Alliance international workers Jay and Beverly Bellamy reported how God is moving in a previously unreached people group—the Vili of southern Congo.
Among the more than two-thirds of the world’s oral learners, the Vili previously had no access to God’s Word in their language. In response, the Bellamys formed a team devoted to translating and recording Bible stories for them.
Members of the Bellamys’ “storying” team have taken these recordings and shared them with the Vili people in 11 of their villages that dot southern Congo. More than 200 adults—and as many of their children and youth—have come to Christ as a result.
Recently, the team has worked hard to establish a story group in the two villages most distant from their base in the city of Pointe-Noire in southern Congo. Each month, the team travels by motorcycle and remains several days in these remote communities, teaching Bible stories and encouraging new believers.
Last week, team members were in one of these villages where two storying groups are now meeting. “The village chief became a believer after asking if he could, even though he has three wives. Davy, the team leader, reassured him that God wants us to come as we are,” Jay reported.
“Every time the team goes back to the villages, there are more people waiting to hear the stories,” Jay added. “Each time they come back to report that more people are praying to receive Christ!”
