Dear Brothers and Sisters,
With the explosion of the Internet has come an incredible proliferation of porn available to anyone with web access. By the end of 2004, there were 420 million pages of pornography. (LaRue, Jan. “Obscenity and the First Amendment.” Summit on Pornography. Rayburn House Office Building. Room 2322. May 19, 2005). This represents a 3000 percent increase since 1998. According to a Christianity Today leadership survey, 37 percent of pastors responding indicated a current struggle with Internet porn, which with its hard-to-erase images deeply etched in the mind can be more physically addictive than heroine. None of us is exempt from becoming ensnared and developing a secret life of sin.
So how do we stay away from this pernicious problem? While I have no easy answers to this question, I would like to suggest a helpful accountability tool my son David and I are using. We have downloaded Covenant Eyes software on each of the computers we use. David has asked his wife and me to be his accountability partners, I have invited my wife and David to be mine. Each week Covenant Eyes monitors all our website visits and time spent on-line, then generates an electronic report to our accountability partners. Next to every website listed on the report is a number indicating any pornographic content on that site. The higher the number, the more likely it is a sexually explicit website. This accountability has been very helpful enabling us to watch out for one another.

- Can be set to send the e-mailed report daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
- Reports can also be viewed 24/7 by logging in at the “member login” on their home page with your user name and password.
- Is virtually impossible to bypass, but can be removed with an “uninstall notice” sent automatically to accountability partners.
- Is not a filter and is not dependent upon your ISP.
- Works with Windows and MAC X 10.4 Tiger operating systems.
- Can be installed for free on any additional computers you use.
