Shipping Information
As you prepare for home assignment, you are being inundated with
a steady flow of information. We are providing you this summarized
checklist of items to assist you in the home assignment preparation
process.
1. Freight Allowance Outgoing.
a. The freight allowance paid by International
Ministries (IM) for all outgoing workers (including first-term
workers) is 450 kilos (1,000 lbs.) for an adult and 115 kilos
(250 lbs.) for a child from home to port of departure, and 1.7
cubic meters (60 cubic feet) for an adult and 0.70 cubic meters
(25 cubic feet) for a child from port to field.
b. In addition, for first-term workers
IM pays freight charges on a refrigerator, stove, washing machine,
and beds necessary for a single person or family, not to exceed
a total of 3.7 cubic meters (130 cubic feet) per single adult or
5.1 cubic meters (180 cubic feet) per family.
c. On unaccompanied freight shipments IM
pays the incidental charges on one shipment only.
d. IM workers who choose a cash grant
in lieu of the IM-paid ocean freight shipment receive $600 per
adult and $250 per child, plus an appliance allowance of $1,000
per family unit for first-term workers. These funds may be
used toward airfreight, excess baggage charges, or the purchase
of outfit items on the field.
e. IM workers transferring to another
field at the request of IM receive the same total freight allowance
as first-term workers. This freight allowance covers shipment
of the workers' goods from their home country and/or former
field of service to their new place of ministry.
f. IM workers who have completed language
school in France or Costa Rica may ship at IM expense up to 50
kilos (110 lbs.) of excess baggage per adult and 25 kilos (55 lbs.)
per child.
g. IM workers who choose to terminate
their service before the conclusion of their approved term receive
proportionate round-trip travel and freight allowances.
2. Baggage Allowance Incoming.
Workers who have completed an approved term of service
and each of their children over two years of age are entitled to
two suitcases, including those permitted by the airlines, each one
not to exceed 32 kilos (70 lbs.). Single workers are entitled
to three suitcases, each one not to exceed 32 kilos (70 lbs.).
No cash is provided in lieu of unused
baggage allowance. When stopovers are approved by IM, all additional
baggage charges within the above provisions are paid.
Career workers and IM worker
associates returning to the homeland for a midterm home assignment
receive only the baggage allowance provided by the airlines.

3. Baggage Allowance for Missionary Associates Concluding their
Term of Service.
IM worker associates returning to their homeland who have concluded
their term of service and do not anticipate continuing in overseas
service with IM are entitled to one suitcase of 32 kilos (70 lbs.)
in addition to item 2 above.
4. Baggage Provision for Missionary Children.
MKs traveling by air to the boarding school in which they
are enrolling for the first time or returning to the homeland for
the final time after high school are entitled to one suitcase of
32 kilos (70 lbs.) in addition to item 2 above.
5. Freight Insurance.
Up to $2,000 freight insurance per adult and up to $1,000
freight insur-ance per child is provided by IM. In addition freight
insurance is provided for the approved major appliances shipped
by first-term workers and workers transferring from one
field to another field.
6. Freight and Customs.
New and returning workers make necessary arrangements
to forward funds to the field to cover all duty charges and excess
freight charges for delivery of their outfits. |
