What is Coaching?
To coach is to come alongside to encourage, pray for, assist, resource, direct, and equip emerging leaders for God’s harvest field of Christian service. Coaching, in essence, is Christ-Centered Relational Multiplication.
Identify a Coach
We believe anyone desiring to serve God would benefit from having a coach/mentor in their life. A coach is someone who you identify or that we help you find who can help you in the walk towards serving God. The person will pray for you, meet with you occasionally and help you move forward. This can be a pastor or some other respected leader in the local church. Also, it can be someone on campus that you respect and that can come alongside you to encourage, pray for, assist, resource, direct, and equip you for God’s harvest field of Christian service. Is there someone you know in your church or school who might be willing to speak into your life and help keep you on track as you seek to follow God’s call for your life? If you don’t already have someone like this, please identify a person and talk to them to confirm their willingness to coach you.
The two most important skills for coaching:
-
Active Listening…
Listen carefully to what is being said and what the Spirit is saying.
-
Asking open-ended Questions…
Questions that arise from good listening. Good coaches avoid giving advice, but help people make discoveries as they listen to God.
