Trips - Mexico
  • Site Info

Mexico, often overlooked when it comes to overseas missions trips, is almost three times the size of Texas, with a population of 111 million people. Despite bordering the United States, crossing the border into Mexico brings one to a different world filled with people trying to survive. Nearly half of the population lives below the poverty line. Drug cartels are on a rise, causing fear* and government instability.

Mexico was hit hard by the economic crisis faced by the United States, leaving a quake of unemployment and severely low paying jobs for many. Fresh, clean water—something we take for granted in America—is a resource that many in Mexico don't have the privilege to access. The biggest issue Mexico faces is that its people live without the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Messiah. Catholicism is the unofficial religion of Mexico, with almost 90 percent identifying with the Roman Catholic religion.

If Mexico is a site of interest, you could find yourself working in Ensenada with C&MA missionaries to build homes and churches, build relationships between the community and the church, and help with VBS and other street evangelism ministries. If you come for an extended period of time, you could lead short-term teams.

    * Despite the negative image that is often portrayed in the news and across American television about Mexico, it is actually much safer than many people think. Our missionaries (a family of 6) who currently live in Ensenada, have not come in contact with any drug cartels, and the area continues to remain clean of the "dangers" that are often shown on TV.
