Children/Early Childhood Ministries

South Atlantic District C&MA

Our church is a growing congregation with people of all ages and backgrounds. Our average morning worship attendance is approximately 285. We often have up to 40-50 children involved in children's church or kids' clubs. We saw 22 children come to know Jesus during our summer VBS this year. We have a number of very enthusiastic and gifted workers. There is a lot of vitality in our children's ministry, but there is no overarching strategy, discipleship plan, or structure, so the parts don't always work that well together. We have never had a full-time, paid staff member in the area of children's ministry, but our growing kids' programs and the potential for outreach in our community necessitate bringing someone on board. We are part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, an evangelical denomination with ministries in over 70 nations throughout the world. Some of What You'll Do ? ***Lead a committed team of workers in evangelizing and discipling children. ? Oversee all aspects of the children's ministry including Sunday morning Children's Church, weekday evening Kids' Club, children's Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and special events. ? Bring greater focus and coherence to our children's programs. Although we have a lot of very good things going on, we do not have an overall strategy for kids' ministry. Our different curricula need to be coordinated, our security protocols need to be tightened up, our teachers and helpers need to undergo a minimum level of training, and our different activities and programs need to be made part of an overall effort to win kids to the Lord and disciple them in Christ. ? ***Lead a team of workers in initiating deliberate outreach efforts. Focused outreach is a missing piece that needs to be brought in. We have recently been considering starting an after-school program, thinking that this might connect us with more un-churched families. However there may be alternative possibilities that would be more effective. ? Explore ways to reach out to the families of children involved in the above ministries. ? Coordinate with the other staff members (Senior Pastor, Associate for Discipleship, Youth Pastor, Administrative Assistants). ? Participate, on occasion, in other ministries (visitation, counseling, preaching) as necessary. Qualifications ? A strong and dynamic relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ ? Competence in evangelizing, teaching and discipling children ? Flexibility and a teachable spirit ? Competence in administration, reliability in communicating with parents, etc. ? Significant experience in children's ministry ? Bachelor's degree in a relevant field strongly desired ? Agreement with the mission and doctrinal statement of the C&MA ? Willingness, if not yet ordained/consecrated, to pursue ordination/consecration according to the requirements of the C&MA ? A basic competence with computer applications and other tools used in the ministry We are looking for someone with a heart for the Lord and for leading children to Christ and then into a deep relationship with Him. The ability to work well with other staff members and with volunteers is a necessity. Prior full-time children's ministry experience is not required, but while gaining experience the Children's Director can expect to be mentored by the Senior Pastor and to work closely with experienced and committed church leaders and other workers.
