Metropolitan District C&MA
Metropolitan District C&MA Long Hill Chapel in Chatham, New Jersey is seeking a Lead Pastor to guide the congregation in effectively and compassionately reaching the immediate surrounding towns, as well as impacting the world. It is estimated that this community, 30 minutes west of NYC, is in a suburban setting with approximately 140,000 people in the adjoining towns. Long Hill Chapel has had an amazing ministry over the decades, and has successfully planted a number of thriving churches in the Metropolitan district. As with many churches with a longer history, the need to envision ministry in the 21st century was apparent over the last years, creating an environment that now is digging deep to understand its call from God. During the current transitional ministry experience, the church has teamed with the district in conducting a full assessment, redevelopment of mission and vision statements, and a new expression of core values to take the church forward. This was an inclusive effort teaming staff, leaders, and congregation in the effort. The church’s large campus sits on a main street just outside the central commercial area of the town of Chatham. The facility consists of a sanctuary that can support 800, as well as a full gym in a separate building. The congregation realizes its greatest asset is God, but desires to renew its call to impact its community with the love of Christ. The lead pastor will be in an excellent position to lead the staff and congregation forward in a time of restoration and renewal of active ministry in its community and the region. The Lead Pastor should be a person with a heart for redeveloping a congregation with passion to seek the presence of God, developing staff and lay leaders into an effective leadership culture, empowering lay people to explore and fulfill their calling in ministry, and teaming with the congregation as a people in the next steps of revitalization. He should be an able communicator both in large group settings, small groups, and with individuals. He will have a passion and ability to make Scripture relevant to those exploring the faith, as well as challenging devoted followers of Jesus. Passion and a life filled with hope are solid qualities needed for the position. Applicants with prior experience in leading a multi-staff church into seasons of renewed effective ministry will be especially noted. The lead pastor will desire to live in community, expressing this in relationship with his staff, leadership teams, local pastors, and the Metropolitan district. Minimum Qualifications - At least 5 years of pastoral experience, including experience in a multi-staff congregation - Completed Ordination - A Bachelor’s Degree (required), and a Master’s degree preferred - A desire to team with the Metro District churches and the overall ministry of the Metropolitan District and The C&MA
